Overwhelm, busyness, too much going on, a million decisions to make, unexpected incidences, and too many items on our list that we’d like to tackle some day.
Often in contemporary life, it feels like there is just too much going on and not enough “us” to go around.
Providing some antidotes to that problem is one of the purposes of BigSkyRise, and the topic of overwhelm and busyness will be delved into deeply as things progress.
In addition to providing antidotes, it’s also a goal to not add to that overwhelm.
So, today it is time to introduce a fresh new post-type for BigSkyRise, the mini-post.
The idea of the mini-post is simple, have something quick and easy to consume that provides you a benefit in some form.
While the format and content will vary, the main idea behind it is to keep things short, simple, and to still contain a useful carry-away.
Mini-post: A moment of moving mindfulness
As I write this, I find myself commuting via train, which is something I haven’t done for a little while — though it is one of my preferred ways of travel.
Sitting here, a thought about how many people make long daily commutes on public transportation each day crossed my mind.
Looking around, most people are playing on their phones, reading magazines, watching videos, and doing other such things.
A few others are looking at the passing scenery, or closing their eyes and resting — and commuting via a transit system is certainly a good opportunity to disconnect and relax.
In addition to that, it’s also an excellent chance to take part in some mindfulness practice, even if just for a few moments.
If you are one of the many people who commute via train, subway, bus, etc. then consider taking a moment to try something new and give your self a breath, a bit of space, and some extra mindfulness.
It’s a great opportunity to swap out some “wasted” moments in your day with something that can be greatly beneficial. (Swapping is a topic for a longer post type.)
In fact, now that I’m done writing this post, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
There’s a lot of overwhelm in the world, so I’m introducing the mini-post to BigSkyRise.
Today’s mini-post is about turning a commute into a chance for mindfulness and mental space.
Actions to take:
- Find moments that might otherwise be wasted and turn them into opportunities to do things like disconnect or meditate.
