Raw, uncut, and unscripted: An unplanned post about enjoying life's unplanned moments.
Hop on a Citibike, grab my laptop, and edit some video.
That was my plan.
The gift of an unravelled plan
I wrapped up shooting footage for a different post, packed up my gear, looked at my Citibike app to find the nearest bike to use, and promptly found zero available bikes around me.
With my schedule packed pretty tightly, and the video location a ways away from my laptop, not having a bike to use meant the rest of my day was not going to run like clockwork.
I looked at the empty bike stations on my phone’s screen, paused to think for a moment, took a breath, and then started walking with a smile.
The unpredictable, and uncontrollable nature of life meant my schedule for the day was broken.
More importantly, it also meant that I just received a brand new opportunity, and an excellent reminder to enjoy the life I have.
My original plan was to rapidly commute and then work diligently in front of a computer screen, instead, now I strolled along a river through the fresh air of a gorgeous, post-thunderstorm summer day.
Life gave me a gift; unplanned downtime, a chance to refresh, and an opportunity to take a breath.
It gave me a chance to re-center myself in the present moment.
Plus it gave me an opportunity to include you in that special moment through an unplanned video.
It’s in how you catch life’s unexpected things
Life has a way of throwing unexpected things at us.
It takes our plans and changes them, it can give us things that we may initially feel like we don’t want.
It’s the way in which we catch those unexpected things, the way we react to them, that really determines how those unexpected things impact us.
When life throws you things, be mindful and remember to take advantage of the good parts, and the parts that can lead to seeing new opportunities.
Find the good in those unexpected moments.
Enjoy what is going on around you.
We only have so many moments, and only so many times that we can take advantage of being here.
Recognize and be in the moments you have.
If you find yourself reacting in a negative manner, pause, take a breath, and try to see the opportunity, challenge, or lesson being presented.
Life often changes our plans, and throws unexpected things our way. Find the positive, the opportunity, the challenge, or the lesson being presented in those unexpected things.
Find the good in those unexpected moments, and enjoy life.
