One element of cultivating mindfulness is learning to let go.
That letting go takes many forms including the release of things like thoughts, emotions, preconceptions, and even effort.
Is your effort getting in the way?
For many of us, particularly those of us who are competitive, athletes, perfectionists, "high-achievers", etc, we can have a tendency to force things through an exertion of will power and effort. At times this trait can be beneficial in certain respects. At other times, and in particular when it comes to meditation and cultivating mindfulness, that same exertion can be counterproductive and even harmful.
This great animation on effort, particularly as it relates to meditation, is quite a useful reminder about this for those of us who tend to be rather driven with a go go go approach to things.
Do you have these misconceptions about forgiveness?
Forgiveness, while an imperative part on the happiness journey, is often hard. This is especially true due to pervasive myths and misconceptions that circulate through broader society.
This personal tale of forgiveness shares some great lessons and uncovers some of the biggest forgiveness misconceptions.
Dealing emotional triggers?
While it can be tough to see and accept, much of the way we behave in life happens almost automatically as result of our previous experiences, upbringing, behavioral patterning, and what basically amounts to unconscious habitual programming.
The great news is we can break that automatic response when we recognize this and look to change.
To get a leg up on your automatic reactions to emotions, check out this useful tactic for dealing with emotional triggers and getting a bit more mindful with how you react to circumstances.
